Gender inequality in mixed schools (A HIDDEN CHALLENGE)
Mixed or co-educational schools where boys and girls learn together, are often seen as spaces promoting equality. However despite sharing classrooms, gender inequality still persist in many subtle but significant ways.

One common issue is classroom dynamics. Teachers mays unknowingly call on boys more frequently or praise their answers more than girls. This can make girls feel less confident and less engaged, even if they are equally capable. Boys might receive more encouragement to participate in discussions, reinforcing the stereotype that are more knowledgeable or outspoken.
Subject choices also reflect gender bias. Boys are often encouraged to pursue science, technology, engineering and math subjects while girls are steered towards or arts. These stereotypes limit students and future career options, pushing them into traditional roles instead of allowing them to explore their true passions.
Socially, expectations differ for boys and girls. Girls may face more strict rules about behavior and appearance leading to pressure to conform to certain standards. Boys on the other hand might feel the need to appear tough or hide emotions.
In extra co-curricular activities and leadership roles, boys tend to dominate sports teams and councils while girls are often underrepresented. This imbalance sends a message about who belongs in positions of power and influence, affecting students confidence and aspirations.

While mixed schools bring boys and girls together, true equality requires conscious, effort. By recognizing and addressing the subtle ways gender inequality appears, schools can create a more fun and empowering environment for all students.
